Kurt Walker’s scheduled bout against Rudy Garcia on ProBox TV has been canceled after Garcia failed his medical examination.
Walker, a Tokyo 2020 Olympian, was due to face Rudy on tonight’s ProBox TV and Conlan Boxing show in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Rudy hit the scales 1.6 pounds over the agreed 126-pound limit at yesterday’s weigh-in, but Walker agreed to continue with the contest.
Following a medical examination prior to the fight, the doctor ruled out Garcia due to the fighter being dehydrated after the weight cut. Walker, who had sold a large amount of tickets for the event at Belfast’s SSE Arena, took to social media to announce his disappointment that he would no longer be fighting on the card.
“Absolutely devastated that my fight tonight has been cancelled,” Walker posted on Instagram. “After my opponent failed to make weight, he also failed his medical after. Eight weeks away from my family, putting my body through it every day never gets any easier.
“Want to give a shoutout to my coaches for all the work they have put in over the last 8 weeks. Also everyone at New Era Boxing. Want to thank all my sponsors without them, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this. Lastly a big thanks to everyone who bought a ticket, the support doesn’t go unnoticed! We will have some big nights ahead of us. Hopefully one more fight before the end of the year.”
The event, broadcast live on ProBox TV from 7pm UK (3pm ET), will still continue with Padraig McCrory, fighting in his first contest since defeat to Edgar Berlanga, taking on the dangerous puncher Leonard Carillo. Robbie Davies Jnr also features on the card; he faces former world champion, Javier Fortuna over 10 rounds.
