This performance was a long time coming for Yomar Alamo.

The summer season premiere of Boxeo Telemundo saw Puerto Rico’s Alamo earn a lopsided unanimous decision win over Mexico’s Adrian Yung. Scores were 100-89, 99-90 and 98-91 in favor of Alamo in their ten-round regional junior welterweight title fight Friday evening at Osceola Heritage Park (OHP) Events Center in Kissimmee, Florida.

Alamo threatened an early night after having been extended the distance in each of his past five starts. The unbeaten Boricua floored Yung late in the opening round, connecting with a jab and then following up with a left hookercut to send Yung to the canvas in the final thirty seconds.

Yung managed to beat the count and stand his ground well enough to allow Alamo to go back into boxer mode in the ensuing rounds. The crowd favorite kept Yung on the outside and immediately moving out of harm’s way the moment his opponent threatened to come forward.

Action picked up in round four once Yung was able to offer a sustained attack. Alamo remained calm under pressure, continuing to shoot his jab but following with straight right hands which found its way through Yung’s high guard. Alamo quickly brought the fight back to a boxing pace, with Yung standing center ring but unable to mount an offense.

Yung decided to take a risk in round five, coming at Alamo with lead right hands and a jab that went around Alamo’s guard. Alamo played the role of counterpuncher, making Yung miss and then then making him pay with right hands and uppercuts whenever the two were at close quarters.

Concern over Yung’s ability to defend himself grew in round six, as his left eye slowly began to swell shut. Alamo did his part to exploit the development, connecting with a clean right hand near the end of the frame. The trend spilled over into round seven, with Alamo landing several one-two combinations while Yung began to box in reverse for the first time on the night.

Sensing that the knockout wasn’t going to come, Alamo boxed his way down the stretch. Yung managed to hear the final bell, though absorbing increasing punishment with each passing round.

Alamo advances to 20-0-1, (12KOs) with the win, going the ten-round distance for the sixth straight time in the process. Much promise was met with Alamo’s stateside arrival more than three years ago, with Friday’s bout offering his most efficient offensive outing in some time as he remains a venue and network favorite.

Yung falls to 28-7-2 (22KOs) with the defeat, ending a two-fight win streak. The Mexican boxer remains winless in the U.S, now 0-3 on this side of the border.

On the undercard, Otar Eranosyan capped his first full year as a pro with his ninth consecutive win in as many fights. The Miami-based Georgian made quick work of Juan Carlos Peña, scoring a fourth round knockout in the evening's chief support.

Eranosyan (9-0. 6KOs) sent Pena to the canvas in rounds two and four, the latter which forced the stoppage. The win comes 50 weeks after Eranosyan turned pro in this very venue last August.
