In his first fight against a foreign opponent, undefeated Filipino prospect Regie Suganob needed just a single round to dispatch Indonesian Asyer Aluman on Saturday night at the Cogon Gymnasium, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines.

Suganob dropped Aluman at the 2:38 mark of the opening round with a left hook to the body followed by a one-two punch combo that landed on the head of the Indonesian. The referee stopped the contest, awarding Suganob with a first round knockout victory to raise his unbeaten record to 11-0 with 4 knockouts.

Aluman, who earlier vowed to knock Suganob out in four rounds, dropped to 3-3-1-2KOs. The lanky Indonesian tried to use his reach advantage, but Suganob used better head movement to avoid Aluman’s counterpunches.

The 24-year-old Suganob, who is a provincemate of the former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo, is the reigning IBF Youth light flyweight champion and is currently ranked no. 7 in the latest IBF rankings in the 108-lb division.

Suganob’s impressive victory gave a glimmer of hope to the Philippine Boxing after a series of defeats to the Filipino boxing champions and other top contenders. Currently, Philippines has no world champion after having 5 champions last February of this year (Mark Magsayo, Jerwin Ancajas, John Riel Casimero, Nonito Donaire Jr., and Rene Mark Cuarto).

The Suganob-Aluman encounter was the co-main event of the “Kumong Kumong Bol-anon VI” boxing card presented by PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions.

In the main event, hard-hitting Jhunrick Carcedo (8-1-8 KOs) of Sanman Gym General Santos City won the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia-Pacific Super Lightweight title by stopping the hometown favorite Antonio Siesmundo (8-4-7Kos) in the third round.
