Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City - Featherweight contender Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs) won an eight round technical decision over Daniel Ponce De Leon (41-4, 34KOs). The scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.

After a slow feeling out round, Gamboa was picking up the pace in the second with quick accurate punches. Ponce De Leon was throwing wide shots that were missing but he was keeping a tight defense and making a good account of himself. As the rounds played out, Gamboa was landing the more accurate punches, which Ponce De Leon took well and continue to come forward with his own counters. In the eigth round, there was a clash of heads that opened up a bad cut on the head of Ponce De Leon. The doctor examined the cut and stopped the contest. Because they completed four rounds, the fight went to the scorecards.
