Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder will return to the ring on August 9th, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com on Tuesday afternoon. Wilder will face his most accomplished opponent to date in Sergey Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout.

Schaefer told Boxingscene.com that the card will also feature unbeaten junior middleweight Jermall Charlo (14-0, 10 KOs).

Wilder (28-0, 28 KOs) is coming off a first round stoppage victory over 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Audley Harrison on April 27th.

Showtime will televise the card as part of a planned tripleheader. There was debate over where the card was taking place – Schaefer previously stated that Wilder’s home state of Alabama was a possibility, as well as Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Gordon Hall, the executive producer for Shobox and Vice President of Production for Showtime, possibly helped solve that riddle.

“Looks like the fight card will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino (in Indio)," said Hall.

Joel De La Hoya informed BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that unbeaten Francisco Vargas (16-0-1, 13 KOs) will fight on the card. One potential opponent mentioned is Brandon Bennett (15-0, 7 KOs).
