New York - When Nicholas Walters (26-0, 21KOs) failed to make the featherweight limit for his WBA title defense against Miguel Marriaga, Walters lost his title and many felt he lost his chance to face WBO champion Vasyl Lomachenko in what many feel would be the biggest fight to make at featherweight.

Walters defeated Marriaga by unanimous decision and the undefeated fighter is undecided regarding his future weight division, but he plans to make a ruling very soon.

“I’ll decide in two weeks if I’ll go up to 130 or go down to 126,” Walters told BoxingScene.com.  “But I’ll still love to fight Lomachenko. The world says that he’s the best and we want to fight the best.”

The Walters-Marriaga fight followed an exciting bout between lightweights Felix Verdejo and Ivan Najera, where there was good back and forth action. Even though Walters knocked Marriaga down, the fight wasn’t on the same level as the co-feature. Some fans were booing the performance and Walters understands why.

“The crowd is used to Nicholas knocking out people,” Walters said.  “I hurt him. He stood up to my punches but I couldn’t get the knock out. I hurt him in the 9th and in the last round I hurt him with a body shot but he was tough and I couldn’t get him out of there.”
