Everyone is still waiting for Kell Brook will sign a deal this week to fight Jessie Vargas in a welterweight unification bout at Bramall Lane. Terms have been verbally agreed between IBF champion Brook and the American, who holds the WBO title, over a summer clash at the home of Sheffield United.

Contracts have not yet been formally signed, though promoter Eddie Hearn expects them to be finalised imminently, with the fight targeted for late August or the first week of September. Brook is now ready to put pen to paper on a deal to fight WBO title holder Jessie Vargas this summer

‘It's a huge fight for Brook and I couldn't be happier that he is finally going to get the chance to cement his legacy as the number one fighter in the division. This is just the beginning. Kell is going to go though Vargas and all the belt holders but it all begins at Bramall Lane where we plan to stage this fight,’ Hearn said.

Brook has amassed a perfect 36-0 record but has repeatedly failed in attempts to draw Amir Khan into a domestic blockbuster.

His challenge since winning his IBF belt in 2014 has been finding willing, dangerous opponents but Vargas will represent a distinct step in class on his other defences.

The 27-year-old, a former (regular) WBA light-welterweight champion, has lost only once in 28 fights.
