Masonic Temple, Detroit, Michigan - Returning for the second time since suffering a TKO loss to Zab Judah last March, junior welterweight contender Vernon Paris (28-1, 16KOs) won a hard-fought ten round unanimous decision over Manuel Perez (19-9-1, 4KOs). The scores were 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94. The rounds were close and the veteran Perez was making things very tough for Paris. In the tenth and final round, Paris seemed to get stunned very early by a series of punches and responded by going to war with Perez for most of three minutes.

In a crossroads battle of lightweights, Cornelius Lock (21-6-1, 13KOs) suffered flash knockdowns in rounds four and five, but still did more than enough to win a ten round unanimous decsision over Lonnie Smith (14-5-3, 10KOs). The scores were 97-91, 96-92 and 95-92.
