Hector Fernandez de Cordova of Fercobox has advised BoxingScene.com that his fighter Bryan Vasquez (37-3) will face Felix Verdejo (24-1) for the WBA “Gold” lightweight title on April 20th.  Both fighters are promoted by Top Rank who is the lead promoter of the event.

The fight will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on the Terence Crawford-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard. ESPN will distribute the event.

Verdejo is two fights removed from his only loss which came at the hands of Antonio Lozada. Vasquez has won two fights in a row since losing to Ray Beltran.

Fernandez de Cordova expects a close fight and said that the stakes are very high for the winner.

“I think is a very competitive fight. It can go either way. They are fighting for the WBA Gold Title that gives you the mandatory spot for the world championship.  There's a lot on the line. The winner moves up a lot and the loser could be sinking his career, Fernandez de Cordova told BoxingScene.com.

Vasiliy Lomachenko currently hold the WBA super lightweight title and faces mandatory challenger Anthony Crolla on April 12th.

According to Fernandez de Cordova, the Verdejo-Vasquez winner will next face the winner of the Robert Easter-Rances Barthelemy fight for the vacant WBA “regular” lightweight title. They are expected to fight on April 27th on a Premier Boxing Champions card.

“The winner of Vasquez-Verdejo will fight the Easter-Barthelemy winner and whom ever wins that world title would fight the Lomachenko-Crolla winner,” said Fernandez de Cordova.
