In May, Jorge Arce defeated Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. via a twelfth round TKO, to capture the WBO super bantamweight title, in an exciting battle that is in the running for "Fight of the Year" honors.  The fight stole the show on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley mega-fight.  Rumors of a rematch began to surface a couple months ago.  More recently there have been talks of the rematch taking place on December 3rd, as part of the televised undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito pay-per-view rematch.

Jorge Arce must first get past Simphiwe Nongqayi on September 24th in Mexicali, BC. Mexico. Nongqayi defeated Arce via unanimous decision in September of 2009 at super flyweight.

BoxingScene.com reached out to Vazquez's co-promoter, Tuto Zabala Jr. of All Star Boxing, to see if Arce is still the target for Vazquez, who hasn't fought since the Mexican made him suffer the first defeat of his career.

"Yes that (the rematch) is the fight that we want next," stated Zabala to BoxingScene.com.  "We are working with Top Rank (Vazquez's other promoter) right now and in the next couple of weeks we hope to have something concrete in place."
