The promoter of Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., Felix 'Tutico' Zabala, has officially dismissed, at least for now, a potential October 1 WBO final eliminator with super bantamweight Jonathan Oquendo. A week ago, Vazquez Jr. published his Twitter account that he would be facing Oquendo on October 1, but hours later he withdrew his own comment at the request of Zabala who is directly involved in tough negotiations to finalize an immediate rematch with Mexico's Jorge 'El Travieso' Arce, who captured the title from Vazquez in May.

"What happened here is we are waiting for the rematch. That's what we're looking for," Zabala told Carlos Rosario. "We want to make that fight before the end of the year, but right now nothing is official. There are many speculations on one side and the other, but the truth is I can not do anything until I exhaust all alternatives to secure this rematch."

"The plan 'B' was to fight Oquendo, and not this year as we are going to put it over to the next. But really we are not thinking about that [fight] this year, let alone the 1st of October. We are back for the rematch and we have to keep working on it."
