Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut - In an action-packed junior middleweight brawl, Vanes Martirosyan (35-1-1, 21KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Willie Nelson (23-2-1, 13KOs) in a showdown of top contenders. The scores were 97-93, 97-93, 96-94.

Nelson started working a long jab, coming forward and taking the fight to Vanes. Vanes was finding the target with big shots and had Vanes on the run early on. Nelson continued to press forward in the second, throwing big shots and landing. Vanes was answering back, but not able to get to through Nelson's defense. At the end of the second, Vanes rocked Nelson with a big counter but he was unable to follow up.

Vanes was building up confidence in the third and rocked Nelson again in the fourth, but during the fourth Nelson opened up a cut around the right eye of Vanes.

Vanes continued to win the battle of punches in the fifth, outlanding Nelson with the bigger shots and landing body shots. But, Vanes right eye was getting worse. They were going to war in the sixth, with both having their moments. Vanes started applying more pressure in the eight and coming forward, with Nelson doing his best to counter with the long jab. At the end of the eight, Vanes busted open Nelson's left eye

At the start of the ninth, Vanes was unloading combinations and pushing Nelson back. In the final minute, Nelson was starting to rally by coming forward and landing shots of his own. They were trading leather in the tenth, both landing, and both trying to go for the knockout. The punches were flying until the bell sounded to close out the fight.
