Unbeaten super featherweight prospect Izaac Colunga, 24-years-old, was left in critical condition after a drive-by shooter opened fire on a home in Riverside, California with several people inside.

The shooting occurred early Sunday morning. The Riverside Police Department is searching for whoever is responsible.

Last year, Colunga went pro and is guided by veteran trainer Robert Garcia. Colunga was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Colunga and another victim were hit. The other victim was treated for minor injuries and released.

The young fighter trains at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy.

"The fighters are definitely bummed out, because we are missing one of our champions," said Robert Garcia.

Boxrec has him listed as 3-0, with 2 knockouts. The site also listed him as being scheduled to fight on a date in late April, but the boxers family members told news outlets that he was training for a fight on March 15 in Dallas, Texas - the night before stablemate Mikey Garcia challenges IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence.

"All his vital signs look good. So, we just got to pray and believe that he is going to get feeling back in his arms, in his legs, and be able to be the athlete that he is. It is a nightmare, a nightmare. As a mom, you never want to be walking and see your son that was so energetic and full of energy and fun just everything positive about him and just laying there," said the boxer's mother, Carrie Colunga.

At the moment, police investigators do not believe the drive-by shooting is gang related or that Colunga was a target.
