Takashi Uchiyama cemented his place atop the 130 lb. division after flattening previously unbeaten Jomthong Chuwatana in two rounds Wednesday evening in Tokyo, Japan.

A vicious right hand body shot was enough to put Chuwatana (9-1, 4KOs) down and out, marking the first time he's ever been stopped in any form of ring combat, including his deep career in Muay Thai.

Uchiyama knew what he was up against in an iron-chinned challenger who raced to contention. Chuwatana showed heart and guile in outlasting Daiki Kaneko in his 12-round decision win earlier in the year to earn the title shot.

Once he made it to Uchiyama, however, it was an entirely different world.

The unbeaten long-reigning titlist appeared reborn at 35, jumping out to a strong start and hurting the southpaw challenger in round one. It turned out to a be a preview of things to come, although Chuwatana appeared to be fine at the end of the round.

Uchiyama cut right to the chase in round two. The defending champ worked his jab in searching for the perfect opportunity to go on the attack. As it turned out, it only took a single right had to the midsection, which forced Chuwatana (9-1, 4KOs) to step back before doubling over in pain.

The visiting Thai contender was flat on his back as the referee counted him out at 1:15 of round two.

With the win, Uchiyama rolls to 23-0-1 (19KOs). The win marks the 11th defense of the 130 lb. title he acquired more than five years ago with a 12th round knockout win over Juan Carlos Salgado.

It also serves notice to the rest of the 130 lb. division that Uchiyama isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The message was sent to - among others - countryman and fellow titlist Takashi Miura, who stopped Billy Dib in three rounds less than a week ago to establish his place as number two with a bullet at junior lightweight.

The two clashed in 2011, with Uchiyama stopping Miura in eight rounds for his third successful title defense. Miura has since won nine straight, including an alphabet title which he has held since 2013.

In the evening's co-feature Ryoichi Taguchi made the first successful defense of his junior flyweight title, stopping Thailand's Kwanthai Sithmorseng in eight rounds. Their bout did not air on the live broadcast.
