Rittal Arena, Wetzlar, Hessen -Tyron Zeuge (21-0-1, 11KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over veteran Paul Smith (38-7, 22KOs) to retain his WBA "regular" super middleweight title. The scores were 119-108, 119-108, 119-108.

Zeuge returns from a technical decision win over Isaac Ekpo in March. He first captured the title last November when he knocked out Giovanni De Carolis in their rematch.

Smith, who appeared to be close to retirement, returned to boxing and won his last three fights after suffering a three fight losing streak with defeats to world class fighters Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham twice.

The fight started with a battle of jabs between the two. Zeuge was a bit more active, but there wasn't exactly much action in the early going.

Things got better for Smith in the third, as he began to land a few decent punches with Zeuge returning fire. Zeuge came back in the fourth, pushing the action and Smith doing little in return.

In the second half of the fight, Zeuge slowly separated himself from Smith by being more active and more accurate with his punches. Smith, either tired or feeling his age, was not active enough with his punches and wasn't doing enough to press the action.

In the eleventh round, Smith rallied a bit but he was never able to really hurt Zeuge or change the tide enough to put himself in position to win. Zeuge was letting his hands go more often in the twelfth to close strong. Smith was throwing back, but his shots were either missing or not landing flush on a consistent basis.

In the closing seconds of the last round, Smith went down but he seemed to be more off-balance. The referee still ruled it as a knockdown, which didn't really matter as Zeuge was way ahead in the fight.
