Super middleweight Trevor McCumby will face former titleholder Caleb Plant on September 14, part of the pay-per-view undercard featuring Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga at T-Mobile Arena. Ryan Garcia, one of boxing’s notable figures, has predicted McCumby will emerge victorious.

“Trevor McCumby will pull off the W and upset over Caleb Plant. Book it. Trust me on this!” Garcia tweeted.

McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs), who trains in Las Vegas, where Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) also prepares – though at different gyms – views this as the biggest fight of his career. The 31-year-old McCumby, who returned to the ring in 2023 after a nearly five-year hiatus, expressed appreciation for Garcia’s support.

“I think Ryan knows boxing and he sees what’s going on,” McCumby told BoxingScene via text. “I think his prediction is a great one.”

Despite not knowing each other personally, McCumby and Garcia share a deep commitment to their Christian faith. During a recent media workout, McCumby wore a shirt reading “I have decided,” to honor Jesus Christ.

“It’s my time to show the world what I’m about, and all the glory goes to Jesus Christ,” McCumby said.

Since his return to boxing, McCumby has won three straight fights, including a unanimous decision over Christopher Pearson in January on ProBox TV, securing his place in this matchup. Plant, 32, meanwhile, is coming off a more than year-long layoff following his unanimous decision loss to David Benavidez in a pay-per-view main event.
