Up and coming heavyweight contender Joseph Parker (19-0) has kept a very busy schedule since turning pro four years ago.

The New Zealander will fight for the third time this year when he faces Solomon Haumono (24-2-2) on July 21st at the Horncastle Arena in Christchurch.

In his most recent fight Parker beat his best opponent to date, Carlos Takam, and with the victory secured a mandatory title shot against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Parker's trainer Kevin Barry wants to keep his fighter active but believes that the camp for Takam was a little bit longer than it needed to be.  He expects Parker to perform even better against Haumono.

"It's been a really decent training camp. We had a long camp against Carlos Takam. Joe took two weeks off afterwards and went out to Dubai and LA and had a bit of time off then came off. We decided that most of the progress that we have had with Joseph over the past few years is because we have kept him busy and we have just lined up one fight after the next. That is why we got him straight back into action again. We felt that is what works best for him so he finished the two weeks and now we are fighting Haumono on July 21st," said Barry.

The former NRL star Haumono has a very rugged style and good power.  Barry says that the key to coming out with the victory is for Parker to outbox him and not fall into the trap of just standing and trading with him.

"Obviously you don't want to get into a slug fest with him.  You don't want to stand in the pocket and let him hit you with a right hand because he has a very good right hand.  You know he knocked out (Marcelo) Nascimento in three rounds. He knocked out the Japanese champion (Kyotaro) Fujimoto and knocked him cold. We know he has good strength in his right hand but Joe has the superior skills, hand speed and boxing smarts. Joe just needs to control the distance in the fight, get him behind his jab and break him down," Barry told BoxingScene.com.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn recently announced that his fighter will return to the ring in November and that the fight against Parker will more likely take place early next year.
