Sunderland's Tony Jeffries is on the verge of sealing a deal to fight former British super-middleweight titlist Tony Quigley on a Frank Maloney-promoted bill at the Doncaster Dome on September 3rd.  VIP boss Steve Wood guides Quigley and has told BoxingScene.com that the contest is being put together but is not yet done, although it seems likely that the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist will meet the Liverpudlian in a crossroads fight.

Quigley has had one outing since losing his Lonsdale belt to Paul Smith in October 2009, a draw with Artsiom Salomka last November.  The 26-year-old has a 13-2-1 (6) record, he will present Jeffries with his toughest test should he rediscover some of the form that took him to a memorable British title win over Tony Dodson.  Jeffries has been inactive also, a draw with Michael Banbula in July 2010 was followed by a second stanza KO over Tommy Tolan in September.

Jeffries, however, suffered a cut in the Tolan win and has had to wait on the sidelines for a chance to show off the skills picked up under US coach Tommy Brooks.  The Mackem is 8-0-1 (6).
