Tommy Martin has claimed that he is “going to shock everyone” when he beats  The super lightweights collide this Saturday at Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park, with Hibbert’s Commonwealth title at stake.

The rising prospect from Chelmsford had a good 2015, claiming both the English and WBA Continental super-lightweight straps. Still, Martin (13-0, 5KOs) knows this is the toughest fight of his career to date. The unbeaten rising contender is grateful to be once again given the chance to show off his skills on Sky Sports, where his fight with Hibbert – his first-scheduled 12-round affair - serves as the chief support to world title challenger George Groves’ return to the ring.

“I’m in great shape and ready to show everyone how good I am on Saturday,” Martin told BoxingScene.com. “I’d like to thank my coach Barry Smith and my new management at the MGM Marbella gym for all their help in this camp. The penny has dropped for me and I know what I have to do to go to the next level.

“I’ve changed from a boy to a man this year, but now I’m fighting for the Commonwealth title, a very prestigious belt, against a tough opponent in John Wayne Hibbert. It’s going to be tough, but it’s my time now. I’ve learned a lot since the Michael Devine fight in September and I can’t wait to get back in the ring at the Copper Box on Saturday.”

Martin moved to the MGM group following the win over Devine and credits them for their help in his development, comparing the Marbella gym to a professional football setup.

“The MGM Marbella is absolutely incredible and is the perfect place for me, as I can leave everything up to them and just concentrate on what is in front of me,” Martin believes. “It’s like a pro football team. They’ve really cracked it and there are no distractions which is perfect. I’m loving it out here.”

He is also refusing to look too much into Hibbert’s last fight, a controversial victory over Dave Ryan, where he won the Commonwealth belt, which will be on the line in their televised chief support.

“I’m confident of getting the win, but I can’t use Hibbert’s last win over Ryan as a measuring stick. He did get a bit lucky that Dave got injured, but that’s how it goes sometimes and I’m sure he’s trained hard to prove it wasn't lucky.

“To be on Sky Sports is great, as it’s such an amazing platform. Groves is on the bill, there’s our fight and also John Ryder is back, so there are some great boys on the bill and I’m going to start 2016 on a high by beating John Wayne Hibbert and becoming Commonwealth champion.”
