Tommy Coyle and John Wayne Hibbert will meet in an all-British crossroads clash before the end of the year.

Reports emerged late last week that the showdown was in the works, so Boxing Scene contacted sources close to the deal to confirm the details, with the fight expected to be aired exclusively live on Sky Sports.

And we were told by Coyle’s manager, Steve Wood, that the fight is agreed, with a formal announcement expected in due course.

It was originally thought that Hibbert (17-4, 11 KOs), the 31-year-old former Commonwealth and WBC International super-lightweight champion, who lost his last fight at the hands of Andrea Scarpa in a challenge for the vacant WBC Silver crown at the O2 Arena, would face undefeated WBA Continental champion Robbie Davies Jr. of Liverpool (13-0, 9 KOs), who is 26.

But Hibbert withdrew from the proposed showdown with Davies Jr. to enter into negotiations for the Coyle fight, which has now been agreed.

Coyle was most recently in action on July 30 at Leeds’ First Direct Arena when he dropped a decision to Tyrone Nurse in a challenge for the British super-lightweight title, live on Sky Sports.

“[The fight between Tommy Coyle and John Wayne Hibbert is] all agreed,” the aforementioned Wood told Boxing Scene. “We’re just waiting on confirmation of the date and the title that will be on the line.

“We think it will either be on the undercard of [Anthony] Joshua’s next [IBF heavyweight world title] defence [at the Manchester Arena] on November 26 or on a show in December in London.”

Boxing Scene understands that the show on a date to be finalised in December in London, which will be promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport, will be topped by a heavyweight clash between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora, which Hearn wants to make for the vacant British title, providing the British Boxing Board of Control will sanction the contest for the prestigious Lonsdale belt.
