Keith “One Time” Thurman is heading into a very important fight this Saturday night as he’s looking to secure his first world title, albeit interim, against undefeated hard punching Diego Chaves at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX.

Thurman was on the recent episode of BoxingScene Radio and spoke about becoming a world champion. The full WBA Welterweight title is held by Adrien Broner who still hasn’t disclosed if he’ll be staying at 147 or dropping back down. Thurman said whether he needs to face Broner or anyone else, he’ll fight whoever in order to secure a championship.

“If that’s what I got to do to get the belt, then that’s what’s going to happen. Like I said, I’m belt hungry. I got many sayings in this game and one of them is ‘I have an 0 and I’m not afraid to let it go’. What that means is I’m willing to fight anybody to be a world champion. I truly want to prove myself in this sport and in this industry. So whoever I have to face to get that strap, I’ll fight them,” Thurman would tell BoxingScene Radio.

Thurman’s willingness to face any fighter is a vital piece for him to achieve one of the goals he has set for himself. Keith doesn’t just want one championship; he wants them all.

“I actually have another desire and this is my dream. It’s really to make the history books. The way I see doing that is to be the undisputed Welterweight champion of the world. It hasn’t been done in a very long time,” Thurman would reveal.

“Some of these fighters are really not fighting. Some of these champs aren’t fighting other champs or making the fights happen. I don’t even know if it’s even possible nowadays the way Golden Boy and Bob Arum don’t work together but that’s my dream and my goal."

Given promotional feuds and even the WBC not allowing its champions to hold other major world titles by other sanctioning bodies, Thurman’s goal is a difficult one. Also, if Thurman wants to achieve this goal soon, he will most likely also need to go through Floyd Mayweather in order to achieve it.

Every fighter wants to be in the Mayweather sweepstakes but unlike others who simply feel they deserve the opportunity just because, Thurman understands he needs to build himself up in order to be given a chance.

“You always got to put in your dues in the industry. The more and more you win, the more and more you get televised events and the more the people get to see you. My goal at the end of the day is to be the best fighter I can possibly be and hopefully to be one of the most entertaining fighters in the industry. And with that, through time, I hope people start liking One Time and wanting and demanding to see One Time. I would love to be one of the fights on Floyd’s six fight contract but I know I need to acquire a world title before he even considered me as an opponent,” said the undefeated knock out artist.

While Thurman has great goals and aspirations, he knows it all has to be done in steps and a victory over Chaves this Saturday night is his main priority at the moment.
