#TheMoment Weights: Mayweather 146, Maidana 146.5

Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana both easily made weight for their anticipated World welterweight championship showdown Saturday evening at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The defending champion, Mayweather came in at 146 lb. Maidana hit the scales at 146.5 lb.

The bout - which headlines on Showtime Pay-Per-View (9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. local time) marks the first ring appearance for both fighters, who enjoyed banner campaigns in 2013. Mayweather was honored by the Boxing Writers Association of America as the 2013 Fighter of the Year, for his convincing wins over Robert Guerrero and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. The latter served as the most lucrative pay-per-view event in boxing history. 

Maidana scored one of the most talked-about wins of 2013 with his major upset of Adrien Broner last December. The Argentine tough guy dropped Broner early and battered him throughout in becoming the first to defeat the brash former three-division titlist.

The MGM Grand Garden Arena was open in its entirety for the weigh-in, just the second time the venue has done so, as such events usually take place with half of the arena curtained off. The only other occasion when the full arena was open to the public came last September, when Mayweather and Alvarez brought massive amounts of fans to the desert strip. 

UNDERCARD

Amir Khan and Luis Collazo square off in the evening's chief support. The victor is believed to be a viable candidate to face the winner of the main event. 

Both fighters came in right at the welterweight limit of 147 lb. 

Khan was believed to have been the front runner to face Mayweather for this fight, under that impression for most of the second half of 2013. The Brit even passed on a proposed welterweight title fight versus then-titlist Devon Alexander to not risk injury. 

However, Maidana's win over Broner created a much bigger buzz and carried greater momentum, leaving Khan out in the cold. 

Collazo re-entered the welterweight contender picture with a shocking 2nd round knockout of Victor Ortiz this past January. 

Speaking of Broner, the Cincinnati native appears on the televised undercard in support of 'big brother' Mayweather, as he faces California's Carlos Molina. 

The bout marks Broner's debut in the 140 lb. division, having leapfrogged from lightweight to welterweight before deciding to drop back down. Broner came in at the 140 lb. limit, while Molina - not to be confused with the jailed 154 lb. titlist - weighed 138.5 lb. 

Opening the telecast, J'Leon Love and Marco Periban collide in a super middleweight affair. Both fighters came in the 168 lb. divisional limit.
