Ruslan Provodnikov, in one of the biggest surprises of 2014, lost his WBO light welterweight title this past Saturday to unheralded but also undefeated American Chris Algieri in a fierce and close twelve-rounder. Ex-champion’s manager Vadim Kornilov commented on the third career loss of his protégé in a short talk with Allboxing.ru.

“Surely, I was a bit surprised with the decision, issued by judges, who saw that Algieri had done enough to take the title from Ruslan. It is, however, their choice… And another champion was taken to hospital after a fight with Ruslan… I’m depressed with the fact that such a fight wasn’t been televised live and nationwide in Russia. In my opinion, such a fighter as Provodnikov, who is on the board with the best fighters in the world, deserves much more attention to his person”.

“We’re ready to move on forward no matter what. After the fight, Ruslan told me he had failed to find any extra motivation in this challenge [against Algieri]. He wasn’t as motivated as he usually is. Now it’s time to put everything to its proper place”.

“We have a rematch clause in the agreement. If Algieri really thinks he was a better man, he should prove he really won in a rematch. In a rematch that Ruslan will not tolerate him during the fight, and himself – before that”.
