According to the President of Interbox, Jean Bédard, he wouldn't be surprised if Lucian Bute (30-1, 24KOs) requested an immediate rematch with IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21KOs). Froch stopped Bute on Saturday night in Nottingham in a one-sided bout where the Canadian boxer took a pounding for five rounds.

There is a rematch clause directing Froch to face Bute in Montreal. But, there is no fear if Froch decided to take an interim fight. Based on the statements of Bedard to QMI Agency, if Froch faces another opponent, and that opponent wins, then the opponent would be obligated to face Bute. Froch appears to be interested in a September fight against Mikkel Kessler.

"I would be not surprised if Lucian wants to fight him in his next fight, as he [did the same thing] after his first fightagainst Librado Andrade. In his head, he will understand the mistakes he made and he will want to meet Froch in the short term," Bedard said.

"If Froch [faces another opponent] and he loses, the opponent in question must then fight against Lucian. We are very well protected."

Bedard does not regret the decision to match Bute against Froch in Nottingham.

"If we could do it all over again, we'd definitely do the same. However, when you face a man on Froch's level, anything can happen," Bedard said.
