World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman has changed his position on the fourth battle between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. When the fight was first signed, Sulaiman attacked the very idea of the match.

"The fourth version of Manny Pacquiao vs. Marquez is a fight without any importance, because there is no championship at stake. It is a fight that only interests those in Mexico and the Philippines, and [the match is] not drawing attention anywhere else in the world. It is a fight with only a single purpose, to fill the date and nothing more," Sulaiman said.

Last November, when Pacquiao-Marquez III took place, Sulaiman ripped that meeting as well.

Sulaiman said at the time - "Marquez is a lightweight and a move to welterweight would give all of the advantages to Pacquiao. It's a fight that in no way should be done. Marquez is a great fighter, but there is a big difference between the current weights of both boxers."

Most believe Sulaiman was critical of both bouts because the World Boxing Organization[WBO] was the sanctioning body involved with both fights. Marquez revealed that he rejected the WBC's proposal to involve the Diamond belt in last Saturday's fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao-Marquez 4 lived up to the hype and some are calling it the best match of the four part series. Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in the sixth round with a crushing right hand.

Sulaiman, and the WBC, have now changed their position on the fight.

"The WBC and its president congratulate Juan Manuel Marquez for his dramatic and big win over Manny Pacquiao, proving the brave heart of all Mexicans. We also want to congratulate Manny Pacquiao for his bravery and for bringing global interest to fans in recent times. Marquez has placed Mexican boxing back to the heights where it belongs. To make a great fight you need two great fighters like Marquez and Pacquiao."
