Adonis Stevenson and Tommy Karpency were within the 5% tolerance above the contracted weight at their 7-day pre-fight safety check for their upcoming September 11 light heavyweight championship clash in Toronto, Canada.

Stevenson was just below the maximum allowable limit, weighing 183.6 lbs., while Karpency weighed 179 lbs. The most either fighter could weigh at the time was 184 lbs., the rounded up amount of 5% over the 175 lb. limit.

Weights were revealed by Yvon Michel—Stevenson's promoter—and confirmed by the World Boxing Council (WBC), whose light heavyweight title is at stake in this bout. The WBC mandates 30- and 7-day pre-fight weight checks for all of its sanctioned bouts. Fighters cannot weigh more than 10% over the contracted limit 30 days out.

The bout will mark the sixth defense of the World lineal light heavyweight championship for Stevenson (26-1, 21KOs), a hard-hitting Haitian-Canadian southpaw who has held the crown since his one-punch 1st round knockout of Chad Dawson in June '13. His most recent defense came in April, scoring a 12-round decision over Sakio Bika in the inaugural installment of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on CBS.

Overall, Stevenson has won 13 straight since the lone loss of his career, a shocking 2nd round knockout to Darnell Boone in April '10. Included among the lot is a revenge win over Boone, as Stevenson knocked him out in the 6th round of a March '13 clash that kicked off his eventual Fighter of the Year campaign that also featured his aforementioned championship win over Dawson.

Karpency (25-4-1, 14KOs) also used a win over Dawson to propel to the championship picture, scoring a 10-round decision in a massive upset last October. The southpaw from the Midwestern U.S. has won four straight heading into his second attempt at a major title. His previous run resulted in a 12-round decsion loss in Feb. '10 to then-unbeaten titlist Nathan Cleverly.

The light heavyweight championship bout will air live in the latest installment of PBC on Spike TV.
