ARLINGTON, Texas – Angel Barrientes extended his winning streak Saturday at AT&T Stadium.

The 19-year-old junior bantamweight beat Mexican veteran Fernando Garcia by majority decision in a six-round bout on the non-televised portion of the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard. Barrientes (9-1, 6 KOs) has won six straight fights since he suffered a fourth-round knockout loss to Travon Lawson in December 2020.

Judge Robert Hoyle scored Barrientes-Garcia even, 57-57, but judges Chris Migliore and Steve Weisfeld both scored Barrientes a 58-56 winner.

The Honolulu native won by keeping the shorter, slower Garcia at the end of his jab, both to Garcia’s head and body, and occasionally landing right hands. Garcia got off to a strong start and pressed the action at times, yet Barrientes defended himself well when Garcia let his hands go by at least deflecting many of Garcia’s shots with his gloves.

The 34-year-old Garcia (13-5, 8 KOs), a Dallas resident from Monterrey, is 1-5 in his past six fights.
