According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Argentine boxer Cesar Rene Cuenca (42-0, 1KO) is likely not going to be the April 14th opponent for Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39KOs). Marquez's next fight is scheduled to take place at a new venue in Mexico City, for the inertim-WBO junior welterweight title.

According to the source, negotiations are ongoing with an opponent of "European origin," but the name was not disclosed because the contracts have not been finalized. The agreement would have to come soon because an official press conference to announce the event is scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday of next week.

"What is confirmed right now, is that Cuenca is likely not going to be the opponent for Juan Manuel. We are still negotiating with the new opponent, but we prefer to announce [the name] once the deal is closed.

Marquez's coach Nacho Beristain had heard that there might be changes, but he wasn't told anything official.

"We heard that there might be changes, but those decisions are up to the promoters," he said. "What matters here is that Juan Manuel is being prepared well."
