Former junior bantamweight titlist Suriyan Sor Rungvisai picked up his second win in the span of just 11 days. Given the manner in which he obtained his 43rd career victory, it’s not out of the question that he can return to the ring before month’s end.

The 26-year old scored a bizarre stoppage of Philippines’ Jomar Fajardo, with the fight ending on a slip-turned-knockout in the 2nd round of their headliner Wednesday afternoon in Khon Kaen, Thailand. Sor Rungvisai has now won six straight, although this one did more to discredit his well-known opponent than enhance his own credentials.

The action was relatively nondescript through the opening round, with any of the bout’s meaningful punches landed by the local favorite.

Things became interesting in round two when infighting led to Fajardo falling to the canvas. The sequence was initially ruled a slip by the referee, but changed to a knockdown after Fajardo refused assistance from the third man, instead remaining on the canvas.

Sor Rungvisai was as confused as everyone else, initially moving in before manning a neutral corner. The referee counted to five before deciding Fajardo was not going to get up, waiving off the contest at roughly the one-minute mark of round two.

The win runs Sor Rungvisai’s record to 43-6-1 (20KOs). The diminutive Thai guy has now won five in a row since a title fight loss to Shinsuke Yamanake last October. Sor Rungvisai was dropped three times and also lost a point for leading with his head, but earned a moral victory in going 12 hard rounds with the de facto bantamweight king.

As for Fajardo, the clock has clearly struck midnight on his Cinderella story. The Filipino earned a reputation as a spoiler following a surprising 10-round draw versus former strawweight titlist Francisco Rodriguez Jr. last November.

Since then, his only cause for celebration came this past Sunday in celebrating his 23rd birthday. The aforementioned draw verdict was considered a major upset, but still part of what is now a five-fight winless streak, including a decisive points loss to Rodriguez Jr. this past January. The knockout loss to Sor Rungvisai sends his record 14-8-2 (7KOs), as he has come up short in three straight fights on the road.

The bantamweight bout aired on Channel 7 in Thailand, and also simulcast on the network's official website
