Sean Davis put the disappointment of the week behind him to claim yet another belt.

The Birmingham man was set to challenge Gamal Yafai for the Commonwealth super-bantamweight title.

But there was an issue with the champion, who suffered an ankle injury in the lead-up to the contest, and the fight was scuppered.

That meant that the English champion (now 11-0) would be given the chance to box for the vacant WBC International crown against Paul Economides, who won against Elvis Guillen over six rounds just last weekend in Liverpool, live on Sky Sports, at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, as part of the undercard to Frankie Gavin’s clash against Sam Eggington.

Coming in at late notice didn’t faze Economides, from Chester, in the early stages of the contest as he took the early rounds quite comfortably.

At the half-way stage, the Dave Coldwell-managed man was ahead, but Davis switched up the pace and, despite both men being cut, won the fight on work rate down the stretch.

Economides slipped to 20-6 (4 KOs) in defeat as the three ringside judges handed ‘Showtime’ the victory by margins of 96 points to 94 on all cards.

Meanwhile, Don Broadhurst outpointed Louis Norman over 10 rounds to win the vacant English super-flyweight title and there were points wins earlier in the card for Cori Gibbs and Brian Rose, while Joe Sherriff ended the challenge of the vastly overmatched Tzvetozar Iliev inside four rounds.

Also on card, Brian Rose (29-4-1, 8 KOs) bounced back from his decision loss to Matthew Macklin in April, with an eight round decision over Stiliyan Kostov (20-7, 16 KOs) of Bulgaria. The sole score was 79-73.

Rose was a step better than Kostov, who did bring the fight in the early rounds and applied the pressure but couldn't get anything going once Rose found his pace.

And Andy Keates retained his Midlands Area super-lightweight title with a points victory over Jordan Cooke, Lennox Clarke won on points over four, there were wins for Ryan Kelly and Sam Bowen and Robbie Barrett beat Marcus Ffrench to win the vacant English lightweight crown.
