Former featherweight WBO title-holder Scott Harrison has been told that he must return to Spain to serve the rest of his prison sentence.  Harrison, 27-3-2 (15), was convicted of assault in 2012 after attacking three men in a brothel.  Sheriff Thomas Welsh QC upheld the European Arrest Warrant issued by the Spanish authorities, a move that incensed Harrison and his father, Peter.

“The sheriff has decided to extradite me to Spain,” he said when speaking to the Daily Record.  “My lawyers will lodge an appeal to the High Court.  The Spanish look after their own.  In this country it's the other way about.”

“How can a person who was convicted in a foreign corrupt county with no legal system the same as ours be extradited back to that country?” he asked.

Harrison had previously argued that the arrest warrant was not legitimate, only to have this notion quashed by Welsh.  He now has a seven day window in which to appeal the decision.

The 37-year-old won the WBO belt by beating Victor Santiago in 2002; he lost the title to Manuel Medina in 2003 (SD 12), but gained revenge over the Mexican later that year (TKO 11).  A successful run of defences followed, but his battle against alcohol prevented him from continuing his reign and he took a seven-year sabbatical from boxing.  He made a comeback in 2012, beating Gyorgy Mizsea Jr. and Joe Elfidh before losing to Liam Walsh in what looks to be his last professional fight.
