BoxingScene.com reached out to Chris Meyer, the General Manager for German promotional powerhouse Sauerland Event, to discuss the upcoming return of WBA "regular" heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin. Meyer was fuming over several recent reports where Ivaylo Gotzev is named as the "adviser" to Povetkin.

Meyer tells BoxingScene that Gotzev is not involved with Povetkin and the boxer himself does not want to be represented by Gotzev.

There are ongoing talks for Povetkin (25-0, 17 KOs) to defend his title in the month of May, potentially on May 17th in Moscow, and potentially against Andrzej Wawrzyk (27-0, 13 KOs) of Poland.

Meyer indicates that is nothing is even close to being finalized and Sauerland has the final say on when, where and who Povetkin fights.

Vladimir Hryunov, who promotes major events in Russia, is attempting to secure Povetkin a fight with May. Unified champion Wladimir Klitschko has been ordered to face Povetkin by the end of August, and that places a very small window on Povetkin's timeline to take an interim-fight.

Meyer also makes it clear that his company never pursued Fres Oquendo as a potential challenger to Povetkin in May. He says the claims of promoter Bobby Hitz are "complete rubbish." Meyer was approached about the fight by boxer attorney John Wirt, and the idea was quickly rejected and there were no further discussions.

"I can't stand the sh*t talking on the internet any longer. Gotzev, we spoke to him years ago and we have absolutely no contact with him. Also, Alexander Povetkin explained to me that he does not want to be represented by Gotzev. The only thing Gotzev brings to the table is that he's fluent in Russian," Meyer told BoxingScene.com.

"It is possible that Vlad Hryunov has reached out to several possible opponents and explored several scenarios but no contracts or matches were made with the consent of Sauerland Event, who are the exclusive promoter of Alexander Povetkin."
