Mikkel Kessler's promoter, Sauerland Event, are still trying to decide which fighter is going to become the Danish star's next opponent. The two frontrunners are IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, and the WBO's champion Robert Stieglitz. Promoter Kalle Sauerland has confirmed that offer has been recieved by Bute's side and negotiations are ongoing with Stieglitz.

The biggest issue with Bute, is the boxer's reluctance to accept a major fight outside of Canada. Sauerland doesn't step around the fact that Kessler will likely have to travel to Canada to take such a fight. Regarding Stieglitz, a deal could be made where the WBO champion would travel to Denmark to face Kessler.

"It would be a great fight for North America. He's been built up in Canada and it means a lot. We have already received an offer from Butes camp, and we will consider it," Sauerland said.

"[Stieglitz] has a world title and I think it could be a good match. He is a very aggressive boxer. He is more famous for his attack than in defense. It's a battle they did not intend to make earlier, so there's work to get the match wrapped up. I do not think it will Stieglitz's decision, but his promoter."
