O2 Arena, London - In a bout for the WBC International welterweight title,  Sam Eggington (20-3, 12 KOs) got the biggest win of his career with an eight round knockout over former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (36-8, 7 KOs).

At 36-years-old, it was likely the last fight of Malignaggi's career.

Malignaggi was coming off a ten round unanimous decision win over Gabe Bracero from last July, while Eggington was in action back in October when he picked up a big win with a stoppage victory over Frankie Gavin in eight rounds.

Eggington started off very strong with his punches and was landing well on Malignaggi. Eggington was a lot bigger and pushing Malignaggi around.

Malignaggi was doing better work in the third and started to get himself back in the fight, but he began to take some clean power shots in the fourth and fifth as Eggington was pushing forward like a man on a mission.

Malignaggi's face was starting to swell up in the sixth. The range and the reach of Eggington was the biggest issue for Malignaggi. Out of nowhere, at the end of the sixth, Maliganggi rocked Eggington with a big right and then unloaded with at least a half dozen shots that nearly had Eggington out on his feet.

The seventh and eight was evening up as Malignaggi was starting to gain some confidence, but Eggington was still coming forward with his physical strength and connecting well with both hands.

During the eight, a big left hand by Eggington connected to Malignaggi's body and sent him down. Malignaggi, who throughout the fight had eaten some other heavy shots to the body, was unable to beat the count and stayed on the mat as the referee counted him out.
