Trainer Jorge Rubio is shaking his head at Friday's nine round TKO defeat that Olympic gold medal winner Odlanier Solis (22-3, 13KOs) suffered in his rematch with Tony Thompson (39-5, 26 KOs). Solis was severely out of shape, weighing in at 272-pounds for the fight.

Trainer Jorge Rubio, who didn't travel with boxer overseas due to scheduling conflicts, tried to help the Cuban fighter prepare and says there wasn't enough time to get him ready. Solis reportedly trained hard for only a total of 18 days.

Solis' own promoter, Ahmet Oner, says the heavyweight's career is now over and he will be regarded as a journeyman by many.

"I wanted to train him more, but there wasn't enough time. It's a shame because he is a great fighter.," Rubio told George Ebro.

Once source told Ebro that Solis looked poor during sparring sessions with Cuban heavyweight Yasmany Consuegra.

"I was fortunate to be present when he took part in sparring with Consuegra and what amazed me was how overweight he was. At times he showed some of that talent that led him to victory in the past, but you could see that physically he was not at his best,'' source said.
