Lenny Daws will get another crack at the European title after the European Boxing Union ordered an immediate rematch.

The Morden super lightweight (30-4-2, 11 KOs) was inexplicably disqualified at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton inside 10 rounds earlier this month, leading to wild scenes as Ruben Nieto (17-1, 8 KOs) of Spain walked away with the title.

But after an appeal was lodged by Mick Hennessy, Daws’ promoter, the continental organisation has said that the pair must meet again, with the title at stake, in the New Year.

Daws, who was down in round three of the contest, which was aired live on Channel 5, was banished from the ring for what the referee, Denmark’s Freddy Rafn, saw as an intentional headbutt.

Purse bids for the ordered rematch are set for January 18, 2016 at midday (Rome time), but at present both sides are in private negotiations regarding a settlement for the much-needed return showdown.
