StubHub Center, Carson, California - Returning for the first time since the May 2013 decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (32-2-1, 18KOs) had it rough with a wild, two-handed war to win a twelve round unanimous decision over a very tough Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21KOs) in a welterweight contest. The scores were 116-112, 117-111, 11711-.

The fight was physical from the start of the first round. Both boxer were trading and landing some very big punches. Guerrero was landing the much higher percentage of punches and had Kamegai's nose was bleeding badly by the fourth round.

During the sixth, Guerrero's left eye was badly cut and the entire eyelid was swollen like a balloon. Kamegai started to target the damaged eye in the seventh, with Guerrero fighting him off with both hands. Guerrero was firing hard in the eight and ninth rounds, but still getting hit pretty easily when Kamegai would actually let his hands go.

Guerrero poured on the work in the tenth, as Kamegai's output began to significantly drop. But then Kamegai turned up the heat in the eleventh and outworked Guerrero with a two-handed attack as he pinned Guerrero against the ropes for most of the round. They continued to trade heavy leather in the twelfth, with each fighter landing some huge shots. It was a miracle that neither boxer went down by the final bell.
