We welcomed former lightweight champion "Bam Bam" Brandon Rios to the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show.

The Oxnard, California based fighter sports an undefeated record but lost his title on the scales before his most recent fight against John Murray when he couldn't make the lightweight limit.  The plan was for Rios to immediately move up to junior welterweight but he decided to stick around for one more fight when an opportunity to face Yurkioris Gamboa became a possibility. Gamboa is an undefeated former unified featherweight champion who

will have risen two weight classes when he steps in the ring against Rios.

Super featherweight contender Eloy Perez (23-0) has offered to help Rios get ready for Gamboa. While Perez doesn't have Gamboa's power, he does have speed and an in and out style that is similar to Gamboa's.

Perez has other business at hand before helping Rios.  He will be fighting for his first world title on Saturday when he faces Adrien Broner in his HBO debut.

While the Salinas, California based Perez is a sizable underdog, Rios believes his sparring mate has what it takes to pull off the upset.

"I hope Eloy destroys that motherf***er. He's (Broner) a cocky son of a b*tch. He called me out and talked sh*t. He's a 130 pounder who is talking sh*t and this is my last fight at 135 before I move up," Rios bluntly stated.  "I hope he (Eloy) beats the f**k out of him in that fight. Broner is nothing but a Mayweather wannabe. He's nowhere near being Mayweather," Rios concluded.
