Ricky Burns revealed how easy he made weight for his WBA World super-lightweight title defence as challenger Kiryl Relikh required extra time to reach 10 stone.

At the weigh-in which took place on Thursday afternoon at the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow, the 33-year-old champion from Coatbridge tipped the scales at nine stone, 13 pounds and two ounces.

The 26-year-old Belarusian, the mandatory challenger under the guidance of former world champion Ricky Hatton, weighed in at 10 stone and four ounces.

Relikh was given an hour to shave off the excess and at the third time of asking was on the limit.

Looking forward to performing at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow on Friday night, three-weight world champion Burns - who has held belts at super-featherweight and lightweight - was in relaxed mood when discussing the pounds and ounces.

"We had the check weigh-in on Tuesday and I was actually on weight," said the Scot.

"So Tony (Sims, trainer) told me to go away and stuff my face a bit and I got up on Wednesday and had breakfast.

"My weight is perfect so I'm not as grumpy as I usually am.

"Tony's always laughing because I'm always saying to him that I feel as if I'm making the weight far too easy.

"In a way I am but it's good that a day before the weigh-in I was still able to eat."

Burns is making the first defence of the title won in May when he beat Italian Michele Di Rocco with an eighth-round stoppage.

If he comes through against Relikh, who will climb through the ropes with an impressive record of 19 knockouts in 21 wins, he could be lined up to meet four-weight champion Adrien Broner, with the Cincinnati boxer reportedly heading to Scotland for Friday's fight.

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Burns has found the right division.

"I was just talking to him there about the weight," he said. "I just think he was that little bit too diminished at 135 pounds, a little bit more fragile.

"Look at his really good performances in the last two or three years - (Omar) Figueroa, Di Rocco.

"The common number is that they were at 140 pounds. And by the way Figueroa probably weighed about 165 pounds in the ring.

"He (Burns) moved back down to lightweight and boxed Josh King in Liverpool. It was okay but it didn't really seem to have the same....and all that is, is because he's making the weight a lot more comfortably."
