Rey "King" Vargas, who is ranked at number one under the World Boxing Council (WBC) in the super bantamweight division, is waiting for the date to face current world champion Hozumi Hasegawa of Japan.

With an unbeaten streak of 28 fights and 22 knockouts under his belt, the Mexican contender is ready to fight for the world title.

Vargas, trained by Hall of Famer Nacho Bertistain, feels confident that he'll be able to become a world champion next year.

"It is a dream that has come to become a reality. I am ready for Hasegawa. I have the level and experience to overcome him. I will not make any mistakes, I have prepared for this my whole life and I will not miss this great opportunity. Boxing has given me life, but I have also won with a lot of effort and dedication," Vargas said.

"I am very happy and happy for the opportunity that this fight that is coming. We have to wait for the exact date and continue with the preparation."

Vargas is well aware of the difficulty that could be presented if he has to go to the land of the rising sun, but he's very motivated to knock Hasegawa out.

"We have to have the mentality within ourselves to get the knockout, go well prepared, and for that I have seen videos of him. He has a strong punch, so we must move and hit. I have to give everything of myself, surrender my body in the gym, enjoy every moment and wait for the fight."
