New York, New York- "I think this is how you truly establish your greatness," a very focused Shawn Porter (26-1, 16KOs) told BoxingScene.com ahead of his bout this Saturday versus WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman 26-0, 22KOs) live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn

Porter has been out of the ring for over a year but says there is no concern of ring rust going into the fight.

“I am doing just fine, no ring rust,” Porter said. “I think it’s a myth. I just want to get in there and get that energy and adrenaline in the ring. The focus was staying in shape and being ready.”

Both man shared a treadmill in the hotel by coincidence a day ago, which Porter that was hilarious

“I never been that close to an opponent on fight week outside of media things,” Porter said. “I laughed because we both knew it was protocol to try and get that shake off.  This isn’t the first time and won’t be the last time friend’s fight. But I’m done talking about being friends because we’re just days away from getting in there and trading punches.”

Porter being from Las Vegas has heard rumblings about a possible Floyd Mayweather Jr. comeback and knows come Saturday he has to be impressive.

"If Mayweather come back, he’s coming back for the WBA title and I plan to be the winner of the WBA title,” stated Porter. “I know the Mayweather Gym has been under a remodel and what I’ve been told is when he does a remodel, that means he’s going to fight. It’s a good sign to the winner of this fight.”

“I think the way I win will be important but I’m not going to go in there looking for a knockout, I’m going to let my hands go, show my defense, and work the way I work.”

Porter feels he has come a long way as a fighter and feels the best way to beat Keith Thurman is a mixture of boxing and power.

“I want this fight to be a mix of me vs Malignaggi and Broner. You saw boxing with Broner, and power and ferocity versus Malignaggi.”
