The Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) has made an official decision to not issue a license to former world champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (90-5-2, 47KOs, 40 years old) of Thailand.

The comebacking fighter was being lined up to face another former world champion, Koki Kameda (33-2, 18 KOs, 31 years old and Kyoei Boxing Gym Tokyo), on the date of May 5 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

The JBC (Japan Boxing Commission) decided not to license Pongsaklek Wonjongkam under the laws of the JBC regarding age limit and also the fact that he's been away from the ring since 2013.

According to the stipulation of the JBC, a boxer who has not fought in a three calendar years can no longer be licensed by the JBC. This was how the fight between Kameda and Wonjongkam has hit a brick wall - despite the great desire of both boxers to settle their differences in the ring.

A few days ago, it was officially announced that Kameda, who was also retired from boxing three years ago, is going to make his farewell boxing fight against Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, for whom he had been dethroned as flyweight world champion by a majority decision in Tokyo in 2013 and incidentally lost his undefeated record.

Wonjongkam has been retired from boxing after his last fight in 2013 and mostly has been working as a trainer back home with no intention of returning to the ring - but recently he accepted the offer from Kameda to the opportunity to have their grudge fight.

Based on the announcement of the JBC, there is nothing that would prevent Kameda from going foward with Wonjongkam - but as a n exhibition, because the JBC can not recognize Kameda vs Wonjongkam as an official fight withintheir rules and regulations.

Kameda is already licensed by the JBC to fight in Japan, so time will tell which direction he intends to take.
