A match-up between Daniel Ponce De Leon and Jayson is likely to take place later this year, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told Boxingscene.com Tuesday afternoon.

The bout was originally to have taken place at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY, but Velez backed out of the fight due to suffering an ankle injury.

Ponce De Leon would up fighting Abner Mares on May 4th in Las Vegas, NV. During the highly-anticipated fight between the two Mexican fighters, Mares dropped Ponce De Leon twice en route to a ninth round stoppage victory.

When contacted by Boxingscene.com on Wednesday afternoon, manager Frank Espinoza expressed interest in the fight.

"We would be interested in that fight," said Espinoza, who manages both Mares and Ponce De Leon. "We would like to get Ponce back in the ring as soon as possible. Velez is a good fighter and we would approve of that type of fight."

There should be no difficulties in making the fight, as both are promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

No word on an exact date and location for the fight to take place.
