World champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez promised to give his father the best performance of his career when he enters the ring this coming Saturday to defend the super welterweight crown of the World Boxing Council. The unbeaten boxer continues to refine details of his preparation to face the British southpaw Ryan Rhodes. Canelo got a surprise visit at the gym from his father, Mr. Santos Alvarez, who recalls his younger son as being a very hyperactive child.

"He has always been restless, a very good boy," he said.

In Mexico the third Sunday of June is "Father's Day" and the Alvarez family is hoping to celebrate twice, the triumph of Canelo and to honor Don Santos. Saul Alvarez, the youngest of seven, looks in great physical shape to defend his belt at Arena VFG in Tlajomulco, Jalisco. The event will feature five title fights.
