WBC super welterweight world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez said goodbye to his fans before leaving Guadalajara, and heading to Big Bear, California where he will lead a five-week training camp towards the June 18 showdown against England's Ryan Rhodes.

The event is scheduled in the majestic Arena VFG and represents the first defense of the belt currently held by the Pride of Jalisco - " it is a dream for me to defend my belt before my people. I always wanted to do that and now only that remains is to prepare thoroughly for a great fight," said Canelo.

Alvarez thanked everyone for all of the support that he's received to fight in this event - "especially the authorities and the media because you echoed my desire to return to fight here," said world champion.

Present at the press gathering was Eric Gomez, who is the Vice President and head matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions. Gomez said Rhodes will be another big test for Alvarez, "and after this fight we are thinking about the next challenge for Saul, and great things will come, but everything will done in time."

Eddy and Joseph 'Chepo' Reynoso took their time to explain the work being done in Big Bear - " it will be a magnificent camp at a high altitude where he will integrate with three sparring partners who will support the work of Saul," said 'Chepo' Reynoso.

The return of Team Canelo to the capital Guadalajara is scheduled for the week of the fight. Tickets for the evening could be on sale one month in advance.
