The official weigh-in is over, as Omar "Businessman" Chavez and Roberto Garcia made the contracted weight limit for their very interesting 10 round super welterweight fight on Saturday, August 12 at the Nuevo Leon Gym at Manuel L. Barragán Avenue in Monterrey, in a Zanfer promotion - which will be broadcast by Azteca 7 and in the United States by Bein Sports.
The executive director of Zanfer Promotions, Juan Carlos Torres, said the upcoming clash between Chavez and Garcia will mark the future for both.
"It's definitely an explosive fight, both are very strong and have power in both hands, but Garcia takes advantage of experience, he's faced several world champions and most of his fights have been on the large stages in the United States. He's never been knocked out and Omar had no amateur career and his professional development has gone at a slower pace. For Omar to fight with Garcia, it represents a lot and it show if he will make the jump to world title fights and the talent Omar has," said Torres.
Omar ¨Businessman¨ Chávez reiterated that a triumph against García will put him in line to dispute for a world title this year.
"It's the kind of opponents I've asked my company for and it's time to show what we're made of. I want to fight the best, to be world champion and Roberto Garcia is the first step. We are doing a great preparation and on August 12 people will see a great fight and will see an Omar Chavez at his maximum capacity," said the youngest son of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
Omar comes back from a spectacular knockout of Ramon Alvarez, the older brother of Canelo.
For his part, García said Zanfer made a wrong move by picking him to face Chavez.
"I'm in a big moment, if they think that because of my age I'm finished - they are wrong. The same was thought by the people behind Santos Benavides, Breidis Prescott, Víctor Cayó, Norberto González and others who believed that it would be an easy victory for their fighters, and I beat them, and I will do the same to Omar Chávez. If he wants to reach something big, it will not be by using me as a springboard," said Garcia.
