Earlier this week, unbeaten featherweight contender Miguel "Mikey" Garcia was training hard at the Two Feathers Gym in Riverside, California. The 24-year-old hopeful is eyeing a March 10th date with former title challenger Bernabe Concepcion on March 10th in San Juan, Puerto Rico. If successful on that night, Garcia could find himself in line to face the winner of the evening’s main event, a rematch between WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez.

Garcia is familiar with Concepcion, as his older brother and assistant trainer Robert guided his pupil at the time, then WBO junior featherweight champ Steven Luevano, into battle against the Catanduanes, Philippines native for his an August 2009 encounter. Luevano would win the bout by a disqualification due to Concepcion striking him after the bell ending the seventh round.

While Concepcion does have pop in his fists, Garcia seems unruffled by facing such a big puncher, noting that he himself has yet to taste Bernabe’s power.

With the bout creeping closer and only one day of sparring left ahead, Garcia worked out alongside his stable mate, undefeated (3-0, 3 knockouts) prospect Saul Rodriguez, as they shadowboxed before hitting the mitts, heavy bag, and speed bag.

Garcia’s low-key personality matches his demeanor in the ring and it’s not surprising to see him so calm with such a big date ahead of him.
