Jose 'Wonder Boy' Lopez (17-1-1 and 13 KOs), 23, went face to face with 35-year-old veteran and veteran of two world title bouts, Orlando 'El Fenomeno' Cruz (25-5-1 and 13).
The Vice President of the Rankings Committee of WBO, Edgardo López Sasso, said the two fighters could not be more different.
"One is a young fighter, who has the power, as I myself could verify when I could never recover from the first blow he got me with. And the other is a veteran who has the technique," Sasso said.
"Personally, they are also totally different. Orlando is 'outspoken' while Wonder Boy is a man of few words, but there is something where they do not appear as they seem. You can not overlook them in a fight."
In the 10-round bout, Wonder Boy will be defending the WBO International 130-pound title that captured when he knocked out Sasso in two rounds last October.
In addition to his advantage in youth and punch, Lopez is ranked sixth at 130 pounds by WBO, is 5'10 "and six inches taller than Cruz, who is 5'4". That also does not bother the Phenomenon, who in 2000 was part of the Olympic team of Puerto Rico along with Miguel Cotto.
"I love that," said Cruz, ranked 12 by the WBO, "I love it that he's so much taller than me. That will make the fight super easier. That means he's going to have to come to the front and he's going to have to deal with my movements and my speed."
The full transmission will also be available through the Pay-Per-View system at a price of $ 9.99 via www.wonderboyvsfenomeno.com.
"This is a great opportunity for all the fans to see a great event not only worldwide but for all those fans who are not DIRECTV customers in Puerto Rico," commented Hector Soto. Co-sponsored by H2 Entertainment, the 10-fight undercard will be broadcast exclusively on Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 p.m. By channel 161 of On DIRECTV.
