It’s has been a long time since Jorge “Travieso” Arce, has had an eight week training camp to prepare for a fight and not have to worry about weight issues or anything else for that matter. Photos by Rafael Soto.

ON TRAINING CAMP:

“I had about as good as camp as I had in a long time. Everything is going very well and have that extra motivation for going for a fourth world title in four weight divisions”

“I really want to win this fight. I very confident in my preparation for this fight and I believe my trainer Manuel Montiel Sr and his sons had given me the perfect plan to win this fight”

Manuel Montiel Sr and his sons, Manuel Jr., Eduardo and Pedro, also train world champions Hugo Cazares and Hernan “Tyson” Marquez and of course the three-time world champion, Fernando “Kochulito” Montiel.

Arce has been sparring with some young fast, strong fighters like Miguel Beltran, Mario Villela and Joseito Montiel for this big fight.

“The sparring has given me the speed and strength that I will need to win this fight, plus I haven’t had to starve myself to make the weight. At 122 pounds I will the best fighter that I can be at this point of my career.

ON MEXICO VS PUERTO RICO –

“It’s always special thrill when you take on a Puerto Rican boxer, and Vazquez Jr. is a good one. He is undefeated, young, strong, but I have the experience and the courage that will be needed to win this war”

ON THE MEXICAN GOOD STREAK –

“No one expected Tyson Marquez or Siri Salido to win, but they did. So don’t count me out just yet. I am still hungry for a championship, especially one like this one that will make history”

Hernan Marquez traveled to Panama to dethrone Luis Concepcion and Orlando Salido traveled to Puereto Rico and stopped the sensacional Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez.

SOME CHANGES IN HIS ROUTINE

Arce not only did the running and gym work that he always does, but for this camp he added strength and conditioning coach, Edgar Lucero to make himself a true 122 pounder.

“I added an extra workout session to my training routine for this fight, like lifting weights and several other things, that will make me a stronger fighter at this weight, without losing my speed”

ON BEEN PART OF A BIG CARD

“There will be a lot of people watching this show and I know they expect something especial from me. I will try to give them not only the entertainment they want, but also the victory that all my fans deserved for always giving me their unconditional support”

Arce won this first world championship when he was 19 years old. He has won four other titles in three weight divisions along the way and is ready to make history on May 7 in Las Vegas.
