Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has informed BoxingScene.com that a deal has been finalized for Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16KOs) to defend his IBF junior welterweight title against Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31KOs) on May 18th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Peterson-Matthysse will be part of a Showtime televised doubleheader, with Devon Alexander (24-1, 13KOs) defending his IBF welterweight title in the televised co-feature against mandatory challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19KOs).

"They have agreed to terms and the fight is on for May 18th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. It will be the main event of a doubleheader with Devon Alexander and Kell Brook. Great fights, two world championship fights and two anticipated fights. It is probably one of the best doubleheaders in the sport in quite a while," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

Peterson-Matthysse will begin Schaefer's plan for an internal junior welterweight tournament. WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16KOs) defends his title against Zab Judah (42-7, 29KOs) on April 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Schaefer wants to match the winners of Garcia-Judah and Peterson-Matthysse in the fall. The fall winner, who at that point will have the WBC/WBA/IBF titles, will get matched against Amir Khan, who returns on April 27th against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29KOs) at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.

"I want the winner of Peterson and Matthysse to fight the winner of Danny Garcia and Zab Judah, who are fighting on April 27th at Barclays Center. That would be the idea, to have the two winners fight in September and then the winner would fight Amir Khan," Schaefer said.
